valentine

after dan and nate had finished their daily activities, such as classes and soccer practise, the singles of north park gathered in their small apartment. i had been waiting for the party to come, from the moment i woke up and found a heartshaped bag of sweets outside our doorms, from our resident assistant. we ate chokladbollar and cookies, someone had brought brownies and everyone was in a good and cheerful mood.

it soon got crowded, even some of the occupied (and maybe even engaged) student sneaked in. at 11:30 the dancing party was getting started. billie holiday and michael jackson and the white stripes and beatles accompanied our lonely heart beats. the choice of music really soft pedalled the tensions of being single on valentine. i am glad that no rythm and blues or hip hop was involved. it would have turned nasty.

this is ike. he is definitely a party dancer. he plays basketball, and has a really fasionable outfit at every game. when i asked him why he wanted to go to college in chicago he answered: because of the concerts that are offered here, there are so many good bands that play here. he mostly listens to indie rock. last fall he went to four concerts. everytime i go to a party and see ike there, i know that there will be dancing for sure. he is good company on the dance floor, and he knows a lot of different moves.

kai knows a lot of swedish, even though he´s originally from norway and has lived in america almost his whole life. he can say things as mumsfillibabba, vuxenkalas, det kan du ge dig tusan på and ja men eller hur and gulli gull. every friday he wears a friday tie.

it soon got really sweaty on the dance floor and we soon ran out of cookies. we opened a window for some fresh air. eventhough it was valentine, there was no kissing going on. i had heard rumours about how crazy the party was going to be, that everyone was going to hook up with everyone. but the aura was friendly and i remember lying in the coach breathing heavily of exhaustion from dancing when they played the last song.

room 405

welcome to my room on 4rth floor in anderson doorms. i live next to lindset and caitlin and marisela and tasha. i usually take the stairs even though there is an elevator. all the girls share the same bathroom. at first the claustrophobic thought of living with only girls scared me. but they are all nice and say hello how are you doing. sometimes friday nights lindset and caitlin play "low" with t-pain. before i leave for the party i go into their rooms and dance with them. my roomie was studying buddhism and said "this combination is blasphemy"

my roomie is a rower and she goes up 5:30 every morning for practise, this makes her very tired, hournapping during the day. sometimes i hear her getting ready in the mornings and when she closes the door behind her leaving. at breakfast she wonders if she woke me up, and i say yeah, but i always fall back into sleep immediately. sometimes our room is untidy, which i mostly blame her for, very passive aggressively. i tell her: "you can clean your side of the room, if you want to". we used to be married on facebook, but she met a swedish guy who she totally fell inlove with, so she changed her relationship status. but we still call eachother "wifey". at night we say good night to eachother in swedish, she always falls asleep before i do.

klubb radhuset

before i left for chicago i had a klubbnight in my basement. my friends were there and i was the dj. we were dancing. i had put colored christmaslights around the furniture, to make it clubby. and on the walls there were pictures of students from the yearbook of north park university of 1977 wearing glasses. the prom queen did not wear glasses, she had beautiful wavy hair. next to her picture was this geeky chemistry major guy, wearing thick, black frames. the chilean neighbors knocked on the door because of the base that pounded into their house. our house is one in the row. during the evening i drank four Becks, and at two a clock my friend elinor gave me some wiskey and then i played the last songs.

in the morning my friend simon stayed for a while and played some, then me and my mum drove him to the library. it was thursday and i waited for new years eve.
